The Fire Department can't keep up with the demand for calls for help from homeowners with flooded basements. Fire Lt. Scott Nussbaum said that during the 24-hour period ending at midnight last night, 46 calls came in for mostly water-related problems. The main reason, he said, is that a tree fell on utility wires on Massachusetts Avenue yesterday, knocking out power to the downtown area.

They bring us fresh water to our taps for a tiny outlay, their customer service relationships are on par with that between a mother and her child and they maintain their network of pipes to such a level that there is never any waste or needless spillage. Baltimore police were investigating the death of a baby found buried in a bag in Druid Hill Park. Anthony Guglielmi, the police department's chief spokesman, said officers were sent shortly before 8 p.m. to investigate a suspicious death in the 700 block of Druid Park Lake Drive. The infant's body was removed from a shallow hole and taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy, he said. Police said they were directed to the body's location by one of the baby's parents.

After observing a half-day strike, petrol pump owners and tank lorry workers on Sunday gave one-month ultimatum to the government to meet their 13-point demand. Otherwise, they threatened to go for indefinite strike. Nazmul Huq, president of Bangladesh Petrol-pump Owners Association, claimed cent percent success of their half-day strike enforced at the pumps and depots from 6 am to 12 noon across the country today to realize their demands.

Brooke County's EMA Director Bob Fowler said the Ohio Valley really dodged a bullet when dealing with this latest flood threat. Fowler said, "We were looking at a 2 or 3 feet over the flood stage, and it would have been pretty devastating to some of the areas of Brooke County." Fire departments prepared for the worst, right alongside homeowners.
